Our Team

Jim Hogge: Jim Hogge is the State Director of the Idaho SBDC. In this leadership role, he helps focus the efforts of Idaho’s colleges and universities to meet the needs of small businesses.  Jim started the TECenter, a technology-based incubator in Nampa, in 2003.   Jim joined the Idaho SBDC in 1993 and brought with him a wealth of accounting and finance experience. Prior to joining the Idaho SBDC, Jim was an officer in the U.S. Air Force, flying fighter planes and testing new aircraft. He holds a bachelor of science degree in Chemistry from the College of Idaho, an MBA from the University of West Florida, and a BBA in Accounting from Boise State University. He is a member of the Boise Sunrise Rotary, the Albertson College of Idaho Parents Association, the District Export Council, and the Governor’s Task Force on Idaho Rural Issues.

Katie Sewell: Katie joined the Idaho SBDC in 1999 as the Deputy Director.  She has more than twenty years experience in developing and delivering business assistance programs. Her areas of expertise include triple bottom line business practices, grant management, strategic planning, program development, pollution prevention, and sustainable development. Prior to joining the Idaho SBDC, Katie was Bureau Chief at the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. She holds a bachelor of science degree in Agronomy from Colorado State University and a MBA from Boise State University.  She is a board member of Green Works Idaho, Dunia Marketplace and the Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center.  She also serves on the steering committee for the Idaho Environmental Forum.

Betti Newburn: Betti joined the Idaho Small Business Development Center in May 2011 as Region III Director in the Boise office. She began her business career as a nurse in critical care and emergency medicine before moving to the corporate world in business technology for clinical information systems development and implementation. Betti worked with early start-up companies and larger mature companies in positions including Director of Implementation at an early-stage software and hardware company, which is now a part of McKesson. She also served as Vice President of Product Development and Strategy for a wholly-owned subsidiary of Motorola. In the California Bay area, she was part of start-up teams for a software company and a pre-clinical research facility.

Rick Vycital: Rick Vycital joined the Idaho SBDC in October 2000 as Director of the Region III SBDC covering southwest Idaho. His prior work experience included President and Owner of Silver Creek Inc., which he sold in 1999. Prior to owning this business, Rick was managing partner of DBF & Co, a regional investment advisory firm. In addition, he was Sr. Vice President and Manager, Trust Investments for Westone Bancorp (now US Bank). Rick is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He attended graduate school at Arizona State University and completed his MBIA at Thunderbird School, the American Graduate School of International Business.
